Hospice Halifax
We own and operate a 10-bed hospice residence in Halifax, the first hospice residence in Nova Scotia. To support our annual operating capital requirements, we opened a “new-to-you” store called The Compassionate Closet in December 2019. The donated goods are thoroughly curated, with only the very best items being displayed and sold in the store. The remainder are re-donated to other non-profit organizations in our community.
Our goal with the store was to have it not look, smell, or feel like a thrift store, and we accomplished that objective - the store more resembles a high-end boutique than any thrift store.
In addition to the look and feel of the store, we differentiate from our competitors in the thrift shopping sector by tracking donated goods and issuing income tax receipts to donors for their donated items that have sold in the store. This, along with some other requirements made our selection of a POS system very important for our success.
We engaged with the team at Pineapple Bytes very early in our planning. We worked with them to identify specific system requirements, and they customized the NCR Counterpoint POS system to meet our needs. They were very helpful in helping set up our inventory, customizing our user screens, and creating meaningful reports.
We’re delighted with the relationship we have, and the support we receive from Pineapple Bytes. They did an excellent job to match our requirements with their system. They laid out a plan for implementation, training, and support for our opening and follow up, and they were there for us whenever needed. Their people are great to work with, very patient with our people, and very knowledgeable about our needs and their system capabilities.
We would highly recommend them as a POS provider and I would be pleased to handle inquiries from people considering them.

Within the first few months of using NCR Restaurant Guard I was able to identify an employee who was committing fraud in the order of hundreds of dollars a month — and as a direct benefit I was able to dismiss an employee who was likely committing other frauds, save the business from future losses from this individual, but also brought to Light a hole in our procedures that allowed for this fraud which I subsequently rectified.

“I have been using the Aloha POS for several years. From a server prospective it basically does everything for you. It makes entering the order more efficient, printing checks, splitting checks, adjusting payments, etc so easy. From a manager prospective the BOH does everything I need. It’s easy to monitor labor, check sales, create events, enter items, etc. It’s endless as to what it can do. The support team at Pineapple Bytes are very friendly, knowledgeable & always very helpful when support is required. I highly recommend Pineapple Bytes POS System to any business.”

Pineapple Bytes is really working fantastic for us and no matter what we ask for they never let us down. When we make a change or add something in to the system as soon as you hit save on that register it is scannable at the other one.

I just wanted to say again to you that it is a pleasure working with your company and the service team. In 34 years of business there have been very few companies that live up to the expectations that are put forward but your company definitely does. You and your team back up by actions 100% of the time.
Just thought I would pass this on to you as sometimes over periods of time service does waiver but not in your case.
